CHECK OUT A MUSIC VIDEO made for you by the flutes of Thomas Hooker. They earned this reward by being the lesson group to practice the most minutes during the month of April. Well done, Savannah, Samantha, Havi, LeaHeart, Quinn, and Camryn! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvgeYqpqK7g
We offer instrumental music lessons for any interested fourth and fifth grade students. Students must sign up online (www.meridenarts.com) by June of the previous year. Students may play: -trumpet -trombone -baritone -clarinet -flute -alto saxophone -percussion -violin
All students may rent instruments through the school except for percussion. These students must rent or purchase their own kit (pad and bells) through a local music store.
Instrumental music is taught by the theory of sound before sight. Just like a language, we learn the basics of how our instruments "speak" before introducing notation. Your beginners should expect books in early winter.
Students should be practicing a minimum of 50 minutes a week. Students must fill in practice charts and have a parent/guardian sign off on each week. Ask students to perform the songs they are working on for you!
